People may think cleaning the upholstery with water may bring about effective removal of stains and also smell, but this is completely wrong! Here are two major concerns when water is used for cleaning
• Cleaning upholstery with water may cause water retention in the fabric which inturn results in bad smell.

You can use some home based preparations to remove stains and also the smell
Smell from the car interiors:
This is a strict no-no, one cannot get in and drive if your car is smelling. First and foremost getting rid of smell is quite important. This is can be done with white vinegar. Take two large bowls of vinegar and place it inside the car, one near the dashboard and the other in the backseat. Keep the bowls inside the car for 12 hours with door and windows closed. After 12 hours remove the bowls from the car, open the door and windows. Let the car be open until the vinegar smell goes-off.
Stains from the car upholstery:
Baby Wipes: Yes! These wipes are very helpful in removing wet stains. As these wipes are gentle on skin, it is a good option for people who are sensitive and have allergies. You can simply rub the wet wipe on the stain and the stain will be removed.
Dry Cleaning Clothes: These clothes are very effective in cleaning car upholstery stains. The commonly used brand is Dryel, which smells great. Dryel not only cleans but also removes stain from the upholstery. You any dry cleaning cloths with a good smell to get best smell in your car.
Soda: A mixture of baking soda and water is an effective remedy for stubborn stains. You can also use club soda for removing stains. Soda is an effective and economical option to remove stains.
Ammonia: With time your car upholstery may fade away. In such conditions, a mixture of ammonia and water can help you get back the life in the upholstery fabric. It helps in brightening of the color and hence the fabric.
You can also opt for a home basedformula to get rid of stains. The stain removal can be done by two mixtures.
Mixture 1: Baking soda and water
Mixture 2: Dish detergent, vinegar and warm water. Mix all the ingredients and till the detergents dissolves and keep it aside for 5 minutes, better the mixture is used in a spray.
Now you are ready with both the stain removal solution, start with mixture 1. Take a tooth brush and apply the mixture of baking soda and water on the tough stains such as ketchup or coffee stains. Let the upholstery with the mixture for about half an hour. This is to loosen the stain, which eventually gets removed.
After half an hour, use a dry towel and remove stains. Try to soak as much of the liquid as possible from the car upholstery. Now it’s the time to use the other mixture which is composed of detergent, vinegar and water, spray the mixture on the upholstery on front and back seats. After you spray the solution on the entire upholstery use a brush with stiff bristles. Then gently brush the upholstery to remove dirt and stains from the fabric. The mixture (detergent, vinegar and water) is allowed to rest for about 15 minutes. The car fabric is then dried with the help of a dry towel. Try to remove maximum amount of liquid or moisture from the upholstery as moisture retention may result in development of foul smell again. Alternatively you can use a hair dryer to remove moisture. Keep the doors and windows of the car open to remove any smell from the car.
